Tanjung Redeb – A campus library
is no longer just a place to store and borrow books. On Monday (October 26,
2026), lecturers and students of STIT Muhammadiyah used the library as a
teaching medium, learning together directly among the collection of books.
During the activity, lecturer Sutiawati, M.Pd moved part of
the lecture process from the classroom to the library. Students were guided to
search for, read, and examine reference sources firsthand, and then discuss
them with their lecturer.
Sutiawati, M.Pd said the activity aims to familiarize students
with the books and learning resources available on campus.
“Until now, the library has often been visited only when
students need references for assignments. Through this activity, we want the
library to become part of the teaching and learning process, so that students
become accustomed to searching for, reading, and analyzing sources
independently,” she said.
According to her, the library atmosphere also helps create
more varied and less monotonous learning. Students are trained to compare
different opinions and develop ideas based on accountable references.
The students also showed enthusiasm. Yuyun, one of the
participants, said the activity was helpful because they could find and read
the sources they needed right away.
“Studying in the library helps us stay more focused and not
get bored. We can open books directly, look for references, and then discuss
them with our lecturer. So the material is easier to understand,” the student
said.
Looking ahead, Sutiawati, M.Pd hopes that library-based
learning will not stop at a single event. She plans to make it a regular agenda
involving more courses and lecturers.
“We want this to be sustainable. The plan is to schedule it
regularly and develop it further, for example through guided reading
assignments, group discussions, and book reviews, so that the culture of
literacy on campus grows stronger,” she said.
Through this initiative, STIT Muhammadiyah hopes the library
can become the heart of academic activity, a place where lecturers and students
grow together in a spirit of reading, discussion, and creativity.
